Prior to declaring your major and registering for classes, you must be accepted to 91¶ÌÊÓƵ.

To be considered a Child & Family student, you must have a declared major within the department. You can declare this on your 91¶ÌÊÓƵ application, or with the CHF department advisor. The 91¶ÌÊÓƵ 91¶ÌÊÓƵ office will evaluate your General Education classes, and the CHF department will evaluate your major/minor courses.

- Transfer Students
91¶ÌÊÓƵ and the Department of Child & Family Studies welcome transfer students. Your smooth transfer is our priority!

You will be considered for admission to 91¶ÌÊÓƵ as a transfer student if you:
· Have completed at least 30 semester credit hours at an accredited institution
· Have a cumulative college GPA of 2.0All Child and Family Studies courses must have been taken within the last 10 years to count towards major/minor requirements. If a course is older than 10 years the course must be repeated.

These Utah System of Higher Education (USHE) institutions offer Early Childhood and Family Studies programs: Utah State University, 91¶ÌÊÓƵ, Southern Utah University, Snow College, Dixie State University, Utah Valley University, and Salt Lake Community College.

1. Go to your eWeber portal and open the Change My Major app
2. Use the Major dropdown to select your major.
3. Some require a minor and concentration. The app will prompt you to select them.
4. The app will prompt you or you will be emailed regarding any requirements and extra steps you’ll need to take for certain majors.
5. Click Submit to send your major declaration request to the department.
6. Your request will be reviewed in 3-5 business days. Your major will appear in CatTracks once approved.
7. Make an advising appointment with the Dept Advisor to go through program requirements and get a faculty advisor.To declare a minor in the Child & Family Studies Department, you must first have a Bachelors degree declared.
- Declaring Your Teaching Major
If you are majoring in Early Childhood Education, follow the instructions for declaring a major in Child & Family Studies and declare a program of study, and apply and be accepted into the Teacher Education Program. The program has a competitive admissions process. A limited number of applicants are admitted in March for fall semester and in October for spring semester.
When you are admitted to the Teacher Education Program, you must attend a new admission orientation.
- Registering for Class
Visit 91¶ÌÊÓƵ’s Registration Website for tutorials on adding and dropping classes, wait lists and more.
To join a closed class or if you have insufficient prerequisites for a class, you must contact the instructor for approval to register. The instructor will contact Danielle Orozco who will put an override in the system and then you register for the class through your eWeber portal. Make sure follow up with your advisor to see when the override has been completed. Overrides expire after 1 week.

- Experiential Credit
You can apply for college credit for prior experiential learning and industrial or commercial training for a $10 recording fee.
Credit may be granted with the approval of the department chair only upon the recommendation of teaching faculty who are appropriately qualified and who are on a regular appointment with the college on a continuing basis. Learn more about the guidelines and requirements in the Experiential Credit Application.
CDA Experiential Credit
Following the guidelines outlined in the Experiential Credit Application, a student can apply for experiential credit with a current Child Development Associate credential and be awarded credit for: CHF 2500 Child Development (3 credits), and CHF 2600 Introduction to Early Childhood Education (3 credits). Students should work with the CHF department advisor to complete the application.
Military Training Credit
91¶ÌÊÓƵ gives you two ways of getting course credit for your military training. Learn more about the requirements for Military Training Credit.
- Academic Petitions
The Office of the Registrar oversees administrative petitions regarding academic records, registration, and graduation for students seeking an exception to policy due to extenuating circumstances. CHF Academic Petitions
Students must petition the program director with a written description of why the policy/action should be overridden.
