Family Service Worker
Family service workers need a sound understanding of individuals, families, youth, adults and relationships. Graduates from the family studies program at 91¶ÌÊÓƵ are trained to be proactive family life educators.

- 91¶ÌÊÓƵ’s family studies program has been an NCFR-approved program since 1997.
- The family studies program provides an opportunity for certification as a Provisional Family Life Educator through the National Council on Family Relations (www.ncfr.org). This background is valuable for those who will be working with families.
- Our family studies curriculum covers family systems theory and other theories to prepare you for a career helping individuals, partners, parents and youth meet their goals as a family service worker.
- We offer community-based service-learning opportunities to help you prepare for a career working with families.
- Graduates can work with organizations such as:
- Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS)
- Catholic Community Services (CCS)
- Family Support Center (FCS)
- Head Start
Social Service Worker Requirements
- 2,000 hours of supervised experience in mental health therapy
- At least three semester hours in human growth and development (CHF 1500 – Human Development), social welfare policy (SW 5020 – Professional Development: Social Welfare Policy) and social work practice methods (SW 5030 – Professional Development: Social Work Ethics and Practice Methods)
- A passing score on an Association of Social Workers ASWB bachelor’s degree level exam
