Amanda Gentry and student volunteerI would wager that throughout human history, anyone who has gazed at the mountains, taken in a radiant sunset, or enjoyed the feel of sand between their toes, has stood in awe and wonder at the moment. Here in Ogden, Utah the mountains always have something slightly different in their appearance. The light shifts with the clouds, the leaves produce vibrant colors, and the winter season leaves the peaks covered in a blinding white blanket of snow. Our sunsets are absolutely unique and putting your toes in the sand (yes, the sand in Utah) gives you the feeling of being grounded as if roots were emanating from your toes to connect with the Earth. These are some of the trillion ways you experience science on a daily basis. Whether you know it or not, science is all around you, down to the very atoms you are breathing in and out right now.

Science is a unique study of everything in our universe that explains what we experience. Part of that experience includes interacting with and supporting others in their understanding of the universe. Volunteering for science-related activities specifically helps others experience the wonders of science and benefits you by increasing self-esteem, reducing overall stress, getting connected to the community, and helping overall physical and mental health. Science In The Parks Volunteers

The College of Science at Weber State is located in one of the best places to experience science and is dedicated to providing hands-on experiences for current students, future students, and our amazing volunteers, who help make everything run. Here are the just a few of the many ways we invite you to engage with us in science:

  • bring exciting science to hundreds of kids each summer with high-powered microscopes, DIY rockets, slime, and more. STEM and STEAM nights bring college-level instruments and experiments to schools to help foster a sense of curiosity and imagination.
  • During science fair season, projects from all over northern Utah are brought to regional science fairs, such as the Ritchey Science and Engineering Fair, where judges from all disciplines come to help guide students and their research in a friendly and rewarding competition.
  • Students in the College of Science are included in ground-breaking as early as their first semester. They have access to laboratory equipment that rivals any of the other big institutions in Utah while getting one-on-one attention due to small class sizes.
  • Additionally, participating in club organizations such as the Weber Science House Party, or helping run the annual Physics and Phriends Open House that showcases, explosions, planetarium shows, and more, helps university students see, feel, and teach curiosity.

Join us today to make science and math education fun and impactful in the northern Utah community.
