NOOR MOUHAMMAD
Business Administration, human resource management, '17
Noor grew up in Canada and transplanted in Utah when her father transferred jobs. "I think the coolest thing about Ogden is I love 25th Street; I like the vibe that's there and the history that's behind it. This place (Ogden) is so family oriented. I've never seen so many holidays and festivities. As part of being a student at Weber State, I sought out volunteer opportunities. I got to volunteer on different floats in three different parades that went all up and down the streets. Seeing that crowd of people come together and share what's amazing about Ogden, it think that was the coolest thing."

WHY WEBER?
Noor grew up in Canada until her dad got transferred to Utah for work. She started her education at a technical school in Canada and upon moving to Utah, she needed to transfer her credits to the US. She looked at multiple schools in Utah, "I went with Weber because it was close to home, it was affordable and I really liked the programs that they had at the Goddard School of Business."
WHY HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT?
Noor had an inspirational professor while in Canada who started her thinking about a career in human resource management. When she came to the Goddard School, she had the opportunity to talk to many of the HR professors like Dr. Thompson, Dr. Fox Kirk and many others. "Getting to talk to the professors a lot more, they inspired me to go into human resource management here because of my love for working with people, training and development, watching people grow, and motivating individuals, so I thought HR would be a really good fit."
ACTIVITIES AT WEBER?
Noor got involved in quite a few of clubs at both the Goddard School of Business and at Weber State as whole. In the Goddard School, she was involved in the Society for Human Resource Management Club (SHRM) as the vice president of programs. In this position her role was to go inside organizations and learn how HR actually works on the inside so she could bring this knowledge and experience back to the club members. Noor was also heavily involved with Weber State Student Association(91¶ÌÊÓƵSA) as the activities vice president. This was such an exciting experience because she got to plan social events, parties, workshops, convocations and was heavily involved both on and off campus. Being engaged in these clubs helped her make friends, connect personally with many professors, staff and community professionals as well as build leadership experience; something she used on her resume that was incredibly valuable.
Because of her involvement in SHRM, Noor was the recipient of a prestigious $5,000 scholarship given to HR students who are actively involved in the Club. This not only provided her financial support for the year, it also allowed her to get to know the students and faculty more, while providing valuable networking opportunities with key organizations offering jobs.

INCREDIBLE ACCESS
"The best thing about the Goddard School is the class sizes. The teachers, the professors, they know your name personally. You are right there talking to your professors, your classmates. I know each classmate personally because I've had so many classes with them, I got to graduate with them and it didn't feel like I was overwhelmed in this 700 person class where I was a number on a piece of paper. The professors really knew you, and your experience level and was able to work with you on your strengths and your weaknesses."
One such personal interaction was when Wendy Fox Kirk took Noor to a lecture about women in business and women empowerment. "Dr. Wendy Fox Kirk had taken me to my first event and not only taken me under her wing as a personal mentor but she was also my professor of three classes and my advisor for the SHRM club here at the Goddard School of Business. She really cared about me as a person and where I was moving in my life. She always had me in mind anytime I needed help, she was the one person I wanted to talk to and who was willing to give me that time that I needed, she was really great!"
ADVICE
"Get ready to bleed purple! I wasn't the most convinced to come to Weber State because I thought it was a small college. I only heard the rumors that surrounded Weber from the outside. But as soon as you delve right in, you really, truly start to fall in love with it. One of my friends said 'Weber State might be small but it has a big heart' and I truly believe that because all of the resources, professors, and staff members that you have here on campus, they're here for you, they know your names, they know your passions and your goals if you just take the time to get to know them. We have so many different clubs and organizations, over 200, that students can get involved in and that's how you can not only build your friends but build your leadership experience too. As a new student, I would tell you to get involved, join a club, join an organization, meet your teachers when you first start going to class, know their office hours, go talk to them and just really make the most out of college."
