Accessible courses help students learn.

Welcome! We have a variety of resources to help you ensure your content is accessible to all students. First, we take a look at the content you have in Canvas. Then we provide services to help ensure your content is accessible. Finally, we offer training opportunities so you can create content with accessibility in mind. Reach out to us in 91¶ÌÊÓƵ Online for help and any questions you have about accessibility.

If you receive an accommodation letter from a student, be sure to work with Disability Services to ensure you are providing appropriate accommodations.

 

Check your content for accessibility:

Canvas Content

Canvas has a built-in accessibility checker that will check your content when creating Canvas Pages and Assignments using the Rich Content Editor. There are also tools to help if a student requires an accommodation:

Documents & Images

When uploading documents into Canvas, Anthology Ally will automatically rate your documents to determine how well they meet accessibility standards. If your documents don't have a green dial, we can help you with our remediation service.

Videos

When using videos in your Canvas course from online sources, choose videos with accurate closed captioning. If you create your own videos, there are multiple options to add closed captioning:

We can help with our document remediation service:

91¶ÌÊÓƵ Online, Disability Services, and the Library have coordinated to make remediation services available to 91¶ÌÊÓƵ faculty to be more welcoming to all students, including students with disabilities.

If you'd like help making your documents and images meet accessibility standards, you can submit documents via Box and we'll reach out with an estimated timeline for remediation. Watch the following video (~2 min) to see how the process works and email LMSsupport@weber.edu for more information.

 

Learn more with our training in Bridge:

Refine your knowledge on designing online courses that are accessible for all, while staying compliant with federal guidelines and embracing Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles.

Enroll in our self-paced course "" available on Bridge. This course consists of eight lessons, and the estimated time to complete it is between 10 -20 minutes per lesson (about 2 to 3 hours total).

By the end of the course, you will better understand accessibility in online courses and will be able to create more accessible content for your Canvas courses.
