Acting & Directing
Whatever your goals in acting or directing, the theatre arts area provides a variety of opportunities to test and expand your skills with an array of courses and real world experiences to prepare you for a successful career in theatre.
The acting and directing emphasis is firmly based in classical study using the Stanislavski Method in acting and Hodge in directing. It also focuses on modern approaches such as Anne Bogart’s combination of viewpoints and Suzuki Training, Declan Donnellan's, The Actor and The Target, as well as devised pieces based on the work of The Frantic Assembly.

Design & Technology Management
Whether you're interested in a career in dramaturgy, set design, theatre management or a variety of other paths, our program provides design & technology management students with an extensive range of courses and hands-on experiences to equip you with the skills needed to succeed in the theatre industry.
Design & technology management students receive training on state of the art equipment, including ETC Ion lighting consoles, a large inventory of new LED fixtures and Dante digital sound system in our proscenium theatre. Our computer lab is also equipped with ProTools, Vectorworks, Qlab, Adobe software suite, as well as digital keyboards for midi composition and a huge sound effects library. Design spaces include the costume and scenic studios, which include state-of-the-art equipment, a costume workroom, workroom, dye room and wide-ranging costume stock. Additionally, a scenic studio is available, which is fully upgraded and equipped to handle both carpentry and metal fabrication.

Theatre Generalist
For theatre arts students who want to enhance their skills in all areas of theatre, the theatre generalist emphasis provides the training and knowledge to succeed in a variety of theatre career options, giving students the flexibility to become actors, designers, technical experts, theatre managers and more.
The theatre generalist degree was designed by playwrights, dramaturgs, critics and scholars with the purpose of creating an entirely new artistic path. Students have the opportunity to study with our nationally recognized playwriting faculty, with additional guidance given for their senior projects. Graduates have created a range of successful projects, including writing a full length play, dramaturging a mainstage production, writing an extended scholarly paper and producing a blog of theatre criticism.
