What is peer mentoring?

A peer mentor at 91¶ÌÊÓƵ (91¶ÌÊÓƵ) is a student who provides guidance, support, and encouragement to other students, typically those who are newer or underclassmen, to help them succeed academically, socially, and personally during their college experience. Peer mentors often assist in a variety of roles, such as:

  1. Academic Support: Helping mentees with study strategies, time management, understanding course materials, and navigating the university’s resources.

  2. Social Integration: Assisting students in adjusting to college life by connecting them with campus activities, clubs, or social groups.

  3. Personal Growth: Offering emotional and social support, helping mentees manage stress, and providing motivation and advice for balancing school, work, and life.

  4. Resource Navigation: Directing mentees to campus resources such as tutoring centers, mental health services, career counseling, and academic advising.

Peer mentors are typically upperclassmen who have been trained in mentorship skills and who have demonstrated academic success and a commitment to helping others. The peer mentor program at 91¶ÌÊÓƵ may exist in specific departments, programs, or student support initiatives, aiming to foster a supportive community and improve retention and academic success.

Peer mentoring can be a rewarding experience for the mentor as well, as it helps develop leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

How do I get a mentor?

You can get a mentor by requesting one using that will redirect you to the Application Form. Once you apply, we will look over your application and provide you a mentor that best suites you. You can also email us directly at mentors@weber.edu or visiting our office in the Shepherd Union 231.
