Biography
Mr. A. Kent Randall is Professor of Manufacturing Engineering Technology and Dean of the School of Technology at Weber State College. As Dean, he
is responsible for giving direction to five departments - Automotive Engineering Technology, Data Processing, Distributive Technology, Electronic Engineering Technology and Manufacturing Engineering
Technology. In addition to Administrative responsibilities, he teaches courses in Manufacturing Engineering Technology. Primary teaching responsibilities include Reliability, Inspection, Quality Control, Process Engineering, Cost Estimating, Production Management and Supervision Principles. He has been a faculty member at Weber State since January, 1957.
Previously, Dean Randall was chairman of Manufacturing Engineering Technology. Leadership given in that position was instrumental in developing the complete Manufacturing Engineering Technology program in terms of measurable performance objectives. Many of the courses have been individualized using the performance objectives as the foundation of the instruction. The Machine Tool, Engineering Graphics and Welding curriculum guides, developed through the Division of Vocational-Technical Education, Utah State Board of Education, are written with performance objectives, and the department is in the process of writing and implementing individualized instructional modules in each of these areas.
His work experience includes that of maintenance mechanic and machine tool repairman at the U.S. Naval Depot, Clearfield, Utah. This assignment included the overhaul, repair and rebuilding of naval macJ1ine tools. Other pertinent summer experience was gained at the Sperry Utah Company where he was employed as a Senior Inspector (Tool and Gage) and later as a Quality Control Analyst with the responsibility for insuring functional gage design, and finally, as a Production Engineer, Sergeant Missile Systems.
During the summers of 1966 and 1967, Ford Motor Company provided additional experience as a Manufacturing Engineer with primary responsibilities for planning and implementing high volume production facilities at their Rawsonville plant near Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Other professional experience was gained as a senior engineer and consultant to the Director of Manufacturing, Univac, Division of Sperry Rand, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Specific assignments included methods studies of electrical assembly production lines, establishing work standards for production operations, production cost estimating, developing ma.nufacturi.ng processes for production parts and assemblies, determining inspection procedures and gaging for production parts
and asse11lblies, development of a vendor rating plan, and the establishment of statistical quality control and reliability activities as a part of process control. Other projects concerning inventory and material control, cost control, and management training were completed.

Alma Kent Randall, born April 17, 1927, passed away peacefully at his home in Layton, Utah on Monday, December 17, 2018.
A. Kent Randall was born in Morgan, Utah to Alma F. Randall and Marie Pyrah Randall and was the oldest of his siblings, but the last of them to pass away. Preceding Kent in death were his mother and father, Alma and Marie Randall, two sisters, Betty Rose and Shirley Sommers, two brothers, Garry and Dennis Randall, and two children, Dana Buxton and Gregory T. Randall.
Kent was proud to have served in the Navy and the Army in World War II and the Korean War. Kent earned his bachelor’s degree from Utah State University, and a master’s degree from the University of Utah where he also worked on a PhD. Degree. His life-long work was done at 91¶ÌÊÓƵ where he spent 34 years as an outstanding educator, and also served as the Dean of the School of Technology
