Mission Statement
The Interior Design Program at 91¶ÌÊÓƵ, grounded in the missions of the College of Engineering, Applied Science and Technology and 91¶ÌÊÓƵ, provides a body of knowledge through standards-based curriculum, practical experience, professional exposure, and community outreach.
The program seeks to prepare graduates to enter various avenues of a design-build network of professions with a firm knowledge of professional standards, design theory, design process, technical skills and the art of professional selling through the following program goals:
Goals
Goal 1
Curriculum that promotes the advancement of skills necessary to enter the practice of the Interior Design profession while fostering collaboration among disciplines within the design-build network and prepares students for professional licensure.
Goal 2
Recognition of the impact of interior design on society and the responsibility of protecting the health, safety and welfare of the public.
Goal 3
Development of an understanding of global awareness and environmental sustainability.
PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES
Design Theory and Evidence Based Design -- Students are exposed to or will apply theory and research to design projects and problem solving.
Professional Practice, Presentation, and Sales Techniques -- Students will be exposed to ethics in professional practice and will utilize professional verbal and visual selling techniques to present interior design concepts.
Design Process, Construction Drawings, and Technical Skills -- Students apply the 5-phase design process and utilize technical skills in producing working construction drawings as part of course projects.
Health, Safety & Welfare, Accessibility, Sustainability -- Students will produce design solutions that are sustainable protect health, safety and welfare, and provide accessibility to all occupants. Student work will feature specification of sustainable products and materials and concepts that adhere to standards, codes and ethical building practices.
Culture & Historical Precedent -- Students will be exposed to or will illustrate engagement through various design concepts that address varied familial groups and cultures as well as historical precedent.
